Set thirty years in Spider-Man’s future, on Earth-70237, Spider-Man: Reign features a retired Spider-Man who returns to combat the injustices of a vastly different New York City.

It was billed at the time as the Dark Knight Returns for Spidey fans. And it certainly accomplished at least that similar feel to Frank Miller’s classic.

We go behind the panels with Andrews to get a snapshot of what it took to break in at Marvel at the time, why the editors actually encouraged him not to make comics, and the Google alert he still gets as a result of the book.
